Raab resigns - Rishi carries out mini reshuffle

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has today carried out a mini reshuffle in the wake of the resignation of Dominic Raab, the Secretary of State for Justice and Deputy Prime Minister.

The following briefing outlines these changes, including two changes that see Michelle Donelan, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology and Julia Lopez, Minister of State for Media, Data and Digital Infrastructure, take time off on maternity leave under the Ministerial and other Maternity Allowances Bill 2021.

The following changes have taken place:

Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP - resigned as Lord Chancellor, Secretary of State for Justice and Deputy Prime Minister.

Alex Chalk KC MP - appointed Secretary of State for Justice.

Rt Hon Oliver Dowden MP - appointed Deputy Prime Minister. Will also remain as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Rt Hon Michelle Donelan MP - Minister of State on Leave (Secretary of State). On maternity leave.

Julia Lopez MP - Minister of State on Leave (Minister of State). On maternity leave.

Rt Hon Chloe Smith MP - appointed Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology. Maternity cover for Secretary of State Michelle Donelan.

Rt Hon Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP - appointed Minister of State for Data and Digital Infrastructure. Maternity cover for Julia Lopez.

James Cartlidge MP - appointed Minister of State (Ministry of Defence).

Gareth Davies MP - appointed Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.
